Our History
For over five decades, Tupelo Community Theatre has been the heart of artistic expression, creativity, and entertainment in our community. Housed within a historic 112-year-old building, our theater stands as a cornerstone of cultural heritage, bringing together generations of performers, artists, and audiences. With a rich legacy and a commitment to excellence, we continue to thrive and evolve, producing a diverse array of performances that inspire, entertain, and captivate. Our goal is to foster a deep love and appreciation for the performing arts, providing a platform for both emerging and established artists to showcase their talents. We are dedicated to producing high-quality theatre that engages, challenges, and resonates with our audiences.
At TCT, community engagement is at the heart of everything we do. We provide opportunities for community members of all ages to get involved, whether as actors, directors, stage crew, or volunteers. Through educational programs, workshops, camps, and other outreach initiatives, we nurture the growth of young talent and cultivate a lifelong appreciation for the arts.
We proudly present six main stage productions each year, carefully selected to offer a diverse range of theatrical experiences. From classic dramas to modern comedies, our lineup celebrates the depth and breadth of human emotions and stories. With each production, we aim to transport our audiences to new worlds, challenge their perspectives, and spark meaningful conversations.
In addition to our main stage, we expanded our reach to an off-Broadway site in 2013 (TOB), further extending our artistic impact. This venue hosts at least four shows annually, allowing us to experiment with edgier and more contemporary works. In addition to the TCT Off-Broadway productions, TOB offers movie screenings, open-mic sessions, and unique performance opportunities. The off-Broadway space provides a dynamic platform for innovation and artistic exploration, attracting a wider audience and contributing to the vibrant cultural scene of our region.
TCT also recently expanded its outreach initiatives to include a Senior Troupe and a Children’s Special Needs Troupe. Both programs were successful in creating a safe and accessible opportunity for underserved members of our community and TCT has made both programs a bi-annual event.
Our commitment to artistic excellence is unwavering. We collaborate with seasoned directors, designers, and performers, as well as emerging talents, to ensure every production meets the highest standards of quality. By fostering an environment of creativity and professionalism, we continue to elevate our performances year after year. TCT is more than a theatre; it’s a cultural institution that binds north Mississippi together through the magic of live performance.
